Members of the Evolution, Biology and Society Section of ASA may be interested in the Society for Cross Cultural Research. The SCCR meets February 20-23, 2008, at Le Pavillion Hotel in New Orleans. The deadline for submitting abstracts is November 20, 2007.

The Society for Cross-Cultural Research (SCCR) was founded in 1971 as a multi-disciplinary organization devoted to encouraging comparative research. Comparative analysis, broadly defined, includes research comparing “traditional” cultures, modern nations, ethnic groups, research that applies a comparative framework to a particular group or culture, and theoretical contributions aimed at a comparative understanding. Biosocial theory and research especially lend themselves to a comparative perspective.

Annual meetings occur each February, and are currently held jointly with the Society for Anthropological Sciences, another group interested in comparative analysis.

Additional information on the 2008 New Orleans meeting, including keynote speakers, submission deadlines, hotel reservations, dining, and tourism, along with materials for registration and submitting papers are available online at: http://meeting.sccr.org/
