Names of faculty who will be a part of the project (each faculty member should complete the Participating Faculty Form). The total number of faculty involved should be half of the full-time faculty (at least seven faculty for a department of 15 or larger).

Indicate (in no more than ten pages) how the participation of your department would be timely and appropriate given your department's current offerings and future plans.

  • Indicate your goals for integrating scientific literacy into the curriculum; how do these plans improve on the status quo, tap department strengths, fit with institutional mission, and addresses perceived weaknesses?
  • Describe your current curriculum, and data analysis and research training opportunities
  • Outline how your participation and implementation of IDA would enhance the research training for majors and non-majors
  • Address issues of sustainability of this IDA project and dissemination to and collaboration with other (social science) departments at your institution
  • Append the list of courses regularly taught in the department, highlighting those that have strong research components

I am pleased to be a part of the Department's application as an Integrating Data Analysis (IDA) faculty member. I understand that, if selected, all IDA faculty would be expected to:

  • Engage in preparatory work prior to the June 2003 workshop
  • Attend and fully participate in the June 2003 workshop in Ann Arbor, MI
  • Implement at least one IDA module in academic year 2003-2004
  • Participate in the site visit and continue to engage in research training activities in academic years 2003-2005
  • Attend IDA meetings at the 2003 and 2004 ASA Annual Meetings
  • Provide feedback and evaluation on the undergraduate research training project
