Hotels: Room blocks for ASA Annual Meeting attendees have been arranged at the Hilton San Francisco and the Renaissance Parc55 hotels. Two sister associations are also headquartered at these hotels. Sociologists for Women in Society (SWS) activities are at the Parc 55 on August 14-17; the Sociological Practice Association (SPA) is meeting at the Hilton on August 17.
Staying within the Block: Booking a room in the ASA room blocks at the above hotels is an important way to support the Association and help keep meeting costs as low as possible. Staying “within the block” is also more convenient and helps you stay connected with the informal activities and networking opportunities during the meeting. Before making your lodging decision, take a look at the incentives offered by the hotels and the ASA to attendees who stay in the official room blocks.
ASA recognizes that you have a number of options when securing hotel accommodations for the Annual Meeting. We would like you to understand that ASA has made a major commitment to the headquarters hotels in order to secure a large block of quality hotel rooms at competitive prices and have access to prime meeting space for program activities. ASA is legally bound to fill the guest room blocks. Not to do so has severe financial implications for ASA and affects its negotiations and your costs for future conventions. If you require a hotel in San Francisco, please think about the three points below, review the list of ASA hotels, and reserve your room through the ASA housing service, TTG.
Convenience, Connection
Get to your sessions without trotting several blocks or paying cab fare. Drop by your guest room to rest or put material away between sessions. Sign charges for meals, beverages, and other services to your room folio. Gain networking advantages by staying in the center of meeting activities. Be where the action is!
Keep the Annual Meeting Affordable
By contracting with the headquarters hotels for guaranteed sleeping rooms, ASA obtains discounted rates for attendees, guarantees that rooms will be available, and gets tremendous discounts on meeting space. Without these contracts, the meeting would be much more expensive. And if the contractual obligations with the hotels are not met, ASA will incur attrition fee penalties that will force meeting registration fees much higher in the future.
